Fenris Creations (CCP Games) is seeking a Technical Director to lead the technical direction of CARBON, a shared game development platform spanning engine runtime, rendering, graphics, tools, pipelines, and developer experience. You will report to the Senior Development Director of Core Technology and directly manage technical leaders across Graphics, Runtime, and Tools teams.
In this hands-on leadership role, you will define and drive technical strategy for CARBON, ensuring it evolves as a high-leverage, modern platform that creates meaningful value for game teams. You will translate product vision and organizational priorities into clear technical direction and execution, while maintaining visibility into team health and alignment across the department.
Key responsibilities include: defining technical direction across runtime, graphics, rendering, tools, and shared developer technology; collaborating with senior leadership to translate product vision into technical strategy; leading and developing technical leaders, strengthening quality and team growth; providing architectural guidance on performance, scalability, maintainability, and developer experience; guiding adoption of AI-assisted development in practical, high-value ways; shaping CARBON's open-source direction; and communicating technical direction, tradeoffs, and opportunities across the organization.
You bring significant senior technical leadership experience in game development, deep expertise across game engine runtime systems, rendering/graphics, and developer tooling. You have proven ability to define technical direction and align multiple teams around coherent engineering vision, with people leadership experience across senior engineers and technical leads. You are pragmatic and growth-oriented, with excellent communication skills and credibility as an engineer through technical judgment, architecture, and code review. You have conviction in AI-assisted and open-source development, applying both strategically and practically.
