OpenAI's Industrial Compute team is seeking a Technical Business Development Manager to source, structure, and negotiate strategic infrastructure partnerships. This role sits at the intersection of technical infrastructure and commercial strategy, responsible for securing compute, power, energy, real estate, colocation, cloud services, silicon, and data center equipment—the core resources powering OpenAI's research and products. You will identify and evaluate high-value partnership opportunities across energy procurement, land and real estate development, colocation providers, cloud service providers, semiconductor vendors, and data center equipment suppliers. You'll lead complex commercial negotiations balancing cost, speed, resilience, and long-term scalability while building trusted relationships with C-suite executives at utilities, developers, colocation operators, cloud providers, and semiconductor companies. Key responsibilities include developing market intelligence to inform OpenAI's infrastructure roadmap, structuring agreements that support rapid growth, and collaborating closely with internal engineering, finance, legal, and operations teams. You'll operate in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment where you must translate technical infrastructure concepts into effective partnership strategies and communicate complex considerations clearly across technical and business stakeholders. The ideal candidate combines strong commercial judgment with the ability to develop technical understanding of infrastructure markets. You should excel at relationship-building with senior external partners, operate effectively under pressure, and balance immediate execution with long-term strategic goals. Experience structuring and negotiating complex, high-value agreements is essential. Based in San Francisco with a hybrid work model (3 days in office per week), this role offers relocation assistance for new employees.
