This is a senior individual-contributor and hands-on builder role focused on turning the existing roadmap into documented, operating, and sustainable controls; resolving complex accounting matters; and creating the discipline required for efficient audits, scalable growth, and long-term public-company readiness. Key responsibilities include: • Own the controls program by maintaining the risk-based roadmap, governance, annual plan, issue log, remediation cadence, and concise management reporting • Define scope and accountability by mapping significant accounts, processes, systems, assertions, risks, controls, and owners; refresh scope as the business evolves • Build durable documentation including narratives, flowcharts, risk-and-control matrices, entity-level controls, management review controls, and policies • Drive remediation and readiness by identifying design and execution gaps, assigning owners and dates, verifying closure, and preparing priority processes for operating-effectiveness testing and future SOX requirements • Lead technical accounting by researching and documenting U.S. GAAP conclusions for complex or unusual transactions and translating them into policies, journal-entry treatment, disclosures, processes, and controls • Embed controls into operations and systems by partnering across Accounting, FP&A, Legal, IT, People, Supply Chain, and program teams, including during ERP and other finance-system implementations • Coordinate assurance by serving as a primary liaison to external auditors and specialized advisors while retaining internal ownership of decisions, evidence standards, and execution The role is based at CFS's Devens, MA facility, which contains industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics. Occasional nights, weekends, or on-call work may be required during payroll processing, month-end close, audit, compliance deadlines, system issues, or urgent operational escalations. REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field • Active CPA (required) • 10+ years in accounting, audit, internal controls, or advisory, with meaningful hands-on responsibility for both technical accounting and control design or SOX readiness • Experience building or materially advancing a controls program in a high-growth, pre-IPO, newly public, or complex public-company environment • Strong command of U.S. GAAP, COSO, financial statement assertions, and ICFR design and evaluation • Ability to write clear, defensible accounting memoranda; apply pragmatic, risk-based judgment; influence without direct authority; communicate clearly; and drive work end to end while balancing rigor with business needs • Ability to perform extended activities such as typing, standing, sitting, walking, etc. BONUS POINTS: • Experience in a high-growth, manufacturing, R&D, project-based, or operationally complex environment • Experience with Odoo or similar ERP systems
