Salary: USD 128,000 - 160,000 / annual
Okta is seeking a Technical Account Manager (TAM) for Strategic Accounts to serve as the primary technical advisor and trusted authority for a portfolio of the company's largest, most complex global enterprise customers across industries including Public Sector, Financial Services, Healthcare, Manufacturing, Retail, and Technology.
In this role, you will act as the technical voice of strategic customers, independently designing and driving multi-year technical adoption roadmaps aligned with customer security posture and business goals. You will partner closely with Customer Success Managers and Account Executives to secure Okta's footprint against competitive displacement and identify expansion opportunities.
Key responsibilities include:
**Strategic Partnership & Account Leadership**
- Serve as the primary technical authority and trusted advisor for identity leads, enterprise architects, and technical executives within assigned strategic accounts
- Independently design and drive multi-year technical adoption roadmaps
- Partner with CSMs and Account Executives to secure and expand Okta's footprint
**Technical Execution & API Prototyping**
- Configure test environments and build Proofs of Concept (PoCs) demonstrating live SAML/OIDC integrations, custom login widgets, and Adaptive MFA policies
- Use Postman to test and validate Okta REST APIs, executing CRUD operations for user/group lifecycle management and policy automation
- Dissect multi-faceted enterprise issues, proactively identify technical risks, and independently drive escalations through Engineering and Support
- Serve as the voice of the strategic customer internally, influencing Okta product management and roadmap decisions
**Thought Leadership & Mentorship**
- Deliver custom technical workshops, architectural reviews, and best-practice sessions for customer engineering teams
- Develop repeatable technical assets, Postman collections, and deployment strategy guides for the global TAM organization
- Mentor P1/P2 peers, driving team enablement and technical capability expansion
**Platform Focus**
Primary focus on Workforce Identity Solutions (Okta WIC) with foundational Customer Identity (Auth0) exposure. You will guide enterprise customers through complex deployment architectures including:
- Identity & Access Management (IAM): SSO, Adaptive MFA, Device Access, API Access Management, Secure Partner Access, Access Gateway, Universal Directory
- Identity Governance & Administration (IGA): Lifecycle Management, Workflows, Identity Governance with automated SCIM provisioning and zero standing privileges
- Privileged Access Management (PAM): Privileged Access controls
- Identity Threat Detection & Response (ITDR): Identity Security Posture Management, Identity Threat Protection, Syslog integration
- Customer Identity & Developer Tools: OAuth 2.0, OIDC, Okta REST APIs, Okta Sign-In Widget, Auth JS SDKs
Some travel is required, including in-person onboarding and travel to Okta's San Francisco HQ or Chicago office during the first week of employment.
**Requirements**
- 5+ years of related technical experience in customer-facing engineering roles (or 4+ years with a Master's degree), including 3+ years as a Technical Account Manager, Solutions Architect, Technical Consultant, or Senior Support Engineer
- 3+ years in identity and access management (SSO, MFA, directory services, lifecycle management, or zero trust architectures)
- BA/BS/MS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Okta Certified Administrator/Consultant, CISSP, or equivalent certifications preferred
- Practical mastery of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML 2.0, and WS-Federation protocols
- Hands-on proficiency using Postman to execute REST API requests, manage environments/collections, and troubleshoot API integrations
- Ability to read and modify simple web applications (HTML/JS, Node.js, Python) to demonstrate authentication flows, public vs. protected route logic, and group-based access control
- Experience integrating major SaaS platforms (Salesforce, Workday, Office 365, Box) via SAML, SCIM, and automated provisioning workflows
- Familiarity with risk-based authentication policies, behavioral analysis, and syslog monitoring/SIEM integrations
- Strong communication skills with proven ability to translate complex technical concepts for both developer/architect teams and C-level stakeholders
- Confident performing live technical demonstrations, interactive whiteboarding, and real-time troubleshooting under pressure
- Strong project management capabilities with a track record of driving technical health across high-stakes accounts
