Neo4j is hiring a Tech Lead, Backend for GraphAware Hume, a graph-powered analytics platform used by law enforcement and intelligence analysts. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on owning the platform layer and core technical architecture that all feature teams depend on.
You will drive the technical direction of GraphAware Hume's foundations, particularly around Neo4j graph database strategy, architecture, and optimization. Key responsibilities include: owning the Neo4j strategy by actively tracking new releases and ecosystem tools (GDS, APOC, drivers) to identify breaking changes and product opportunities; optimizing Cypher queries and graph access patterns for latency, throughput, and scale; mentoring engineers to raise the team's technical bar in graph database expertise without formal management authority; partnering with Product Managers to translate long-term goals into scalable technical roadmaps; designing secure, scalable access control systems for mission-critical environments; building APIs for intuitive interaction with complex data; and orchestrating workflows to automate graph analytics and real-time insights.
You will be sought out across the organization for technical guidance on graph architecture and expected to anticipate product-level issues before they surface. This role requires deep hands-on Neo4j expertise, including advanced Cypher query performance optimization, profiling, and familiarity with the broader Neo4j ecosystem. You should have experience modeling real domains as property graphs and designing systems that scale. The role offers true autonomy from ideation to deployment, collaboration with a world-class engineering team across Europe, and the opportunity to shape the technical vision of a product that impacts real-world intelligence and safety applications.
