Beacon Software acquires vertical SaaS businesses and dramatically increases their value through world-class engineering and AI leadership. This role is a senior technical leadership position embedded within a mature, profitable B2B SaaS platform in Beacon's portfolio.
You will own the technology end-to-end for an established product with real customers, real revenue, and years of accumulated code. You are the sole technical leader and engineering owner—there is no one to delegate to. You own the codebase, set the technical roadmap, and are measured on the value you create.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the technical and product roadmap in partnership with the GM and product team, translating business priorities into sequenced engineering plans and defending tradeoffs
- Driving all technical decisions: architecture, code quality, security, data modeling, performance, release engineering, and vendor migrations
- Shipping production AI features that change the business—evals, guardrails, tenant-safe tool use, and customer-facing capabilities
- Operating as a solo engineer while building systems that scale: ruthless prioritization, small safe changes, automation, and leaving behind codebases and documentation that enable future team growth
- Increasing velocity and hardening the codebase through trunk-based development, real CI/CD, staging environments, feature flags, and meaningful test coverage
- Owning operating costs, security posture, and data handling as core engineering work
- Being the technical face of the business to operators and customers
The platform stack is modern: Python and TypeScript services on AWS, React frontend, Kubernetes, Postgres, and Terraform. The mandate is to reimagine core workflows with AI at the center, retire expensive third-party dependencies, and eliminate operational drag.
You should be a senior Python and TypeScript engineer with deep, current experience in backend services and Node/TypeScript. You're a genuine generalist (T-shaped) who picks up new stacks quickly and enjoys moving across web, mobile, data, infrastructure, and AI. You have hands-on AWS and SQL depth—designing, deploying, and operating real systems on Kubernetes, event-driven workers, and infrastructure-as-code. You've personally introduced trunk-based development, automated testing, and environment discipline to codebases that lacked them. You've shipped production software on foundation models (retrieval, tool use, evals, guardrails), not just prototypes, and have a point of view on doing it safely in multi-tenant products. You have proven sole ownership experience—as the only engineer or clear technical owner on systems that mattered, handling design, build, deploy, on-call, and customer conversations. You have product and business instinct, can read what drives the business, prioritize accordingly, and defend roadmaps to leadership and customers.
