ORCA Computing is developing full-stack photonic quantum systems designed to transform how organizations tackle machine learning, generative AI, and complex optimization challenges. The company is headquartered in London and has already delivered eleven on-premises quantum computers worldwide. Its hybrid quantum-classical architecture integrates seamlessly into existing AI and HPC infrastructure, with the current PT-2 system connecting directly to GPU clusters via NVIDIA's CUDA-Q platform.
As Team Manager of Integrated Photonics, you will lead ORCA's photonics engineering function during a pivotal growth phase as the company prepares to launch its next-generation PT-3 system. You will define and drive the strategic roadmap for ORCA's integrated ultra-low loss photonics platforms, organizing and aligning design, fabrication, and characterization efforts with London headquarters' goals and timelines.
Key responsibilities include managing, mentoring, and growing the photonics engineering team across design, fab, and test functions; serving as the senior technical authority across the full photonic integrated circuit (PIC) development lifecycle from design through fabrication and testing; setting priorities, schedules, and resourcing to balance near-term delivery with long-term platform development; representing the integrated photonics function to executive leadership, investors, and external partners; and identifying and de-risking technical challenges before they impact program timelines.
You will work both autonomously and collaboratively, with excellent communication skills particularly in a commercial setting. The role offers the opportunity to work at the forefront of quantum technology where innovation is already delivering real-world impact, contributing to a pivotal moment in the evolution of computing.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Extensive industry experience in photonic integrated circuit design, fabrication, and testing, including prior technical leadership and people management
- Strong hands-on background across the full PIC lifecycle: design, layout, fabrication, characterization, and packaging
- Proven ability to build and scale technical teams
- Excellent communication skills with experience coordinating across geographically distributed teams
- Must be based in Austin, TX with hybrid work flexibility
- Growth mindset, results-driven orientation
- Enthusiasm for new technologies and interest in quantum computing
NICE TO HAVE:
- PhD in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Direct experience with Silicon Nitride (SiN) photonic platforms
- Background in quantum photonics or quantum optics
- Experience managing distributed or multi-site engineering teams
