Salary: USD 227,200 - 326,000 / annual
Scale AI is hiring a Team Lead for the ARC (Architecture, Reliability, & Compute) team to support the Public Sector Engineering organization. This is a people-management role where you will lead a team, provide mentorship, and manage performance while defining the technical direction and standards for how the company ships software into complex government and high-security environments.
Key responsibilities include designing and implementing secure, scalable backend systems for public sector customers leveraging Scale's cloud-native AI infrastructure. You will build and maintain internal CLIs and tools that standardize testing, deployment, and environment management across the engineering organization. You will own services and systems, defining their long-term health goals and improving surrounding components. A major focus is re-architecting the stack to run in compliant or restrictive environments by designing swappable components (auth, storage, logging) to meet government and security mandates without breaking product functionality.
You will collaborate cross-functionally to define and execute the vision for backend solutions meeting the unique needs of government agencies in secure environments. You'll participate actively in customer engagements, working with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver innovative solutions. You'll contribute to the platform roadmap and product strategy for Scale AI's Public Sector business, shaping the future direction of offerings.
Required qualifications: Active secret clearance (mandatory). Desired experience includes full-stack development proficiency (front-end and back-end), modern web frameworks, programming languages, and databases. Experience developing and delivering software to air-gapped and isolated environments is a plus. Cloud-native technologies expertise (Docker, Kubernetes) and familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP are desired. Security focus with experience in Federal Compliance frameworks (Cloud SRG, FedRAMP, STIG Benchmarks) and developing solutions meeting strict security and regulatory requirements. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and collaboration abilities, and adaptability to new technologies required.
Role requires 3 days per week on-site at DC, SF, NYC, or STL office. Full-time position with comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, retirement, learning stipend, and generous PTO.
