Salary: USD 73,896 - 89,921 / annual
Justworks is seeking a Tax Account Registration Specialist to own the end-to-end lifecycle management of tax registrations and third-party access (TPA) for customers. This role combines operational expertise with state agency relationship management to ensure accurate, compliant, and filing-ready tax profiles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage complete tax registration process for new and existing customers expanding into new states, including completing and filing Power of Attorney forms, implementing new customer profiles across state-level unemployment, withholding tax, paid family and medical leave, and worker's compensation agencies, and executing TPA confirmation workflows.
- Partner with state agency representatives to ensure proper account setup and manage queues of open issues for timely resolution.
- Collect and disperse registration confirmations, tax rates, and account IDs across internal systems and teams to ensure tax filing readiness.
- Accurately input new customer and tax data into tax reporting and filing software, confirm accuracy, and escalate issues to senior team members.
- Craft outbound communications to customers regarding required account information and follow up via phone to meet SLAs.
- Proactively identify opportunities to automate manual tasks and establish new standard operating procedures to maximize efficiency.
- Act as research owner by staying informed on state regulations affecting new registrations and documenting state-specific requirements.
- Update state requirements and setup instructions as changes occur to maintain compliance.
- Track trends identified within each state and proactively develop relevant responses.
- Conduct regular audits of account data and TPA connections to identify unfiled returns or outstanding penalties before filing deadlines.
- Partner cross-functionally with Onboarding, Customer Success, Payroll Tax Filing, and State Unemployment Claims teams to resolve complex inquiries and integrate regulatory changes.

Qualifications:
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in tax registration, filing, or reporting
- Strong technical proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets (VLOOKUP, data manipulation) and experience utilizing multiple software systems
- Multi-state expertise managing tax accounts across multiple states for large employers or PEOs
- Familiarity with government portals for registrations, Power of Attorney (POA), and TPA submissions
- Proven ability to handle challenging situations with empathy and clarity
- Track record of driving process improvements and thriving in fast-paced, fluid environments
