Base Power is rebuilding America's electrical grid through distributed battery storage systems. As a Systems Integration Engineer, you will design and integrate the next generation of residential battery storage, inverter, and microgrid interconnect device (MID) systems. This role bridges hardware and software, requiring you to develop system architecture, electrical schematics, and multi-component energy systems while partnering closely with software teams on control algorithms.
Key responsibilities include designing and integrating battery management systems (BMS) and inverters for residential energy applications; developing and maintaining system architecture and electrical schematics; conducting testing, validation, and troubleshooting of integrated hardware systems; ensuring seamless hardware/software integration; and supporting regulatory compliance and product certification to meet industry standards.
You will need a BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or related field with 3+ years of hardware development experience, ideally in energy storage or power systems. Core technical competencies include electrical engineering fundamentals (circuit analysis, analog/digital electronics, high-voltage design), power electronics (DC-DC/DC-AC converters, inverters, switching power supplies, grid-tie systems), battery systems (Li-ion/LiFePO4 technologies, BMS design, charging algorithms, safety systems), and embedded software (C/C++, Python, CAN, Modbus protocols). You should be proficient with PCB design tools (Altium Designer, KiCad), circuit simulation (LTSpice, MATLAB/Simulink), and familiar with UL 1741, IEEE 1547, and NEC standards.
Preferred qualifications include a Professional Engineer (PE) license or path to obtain one, experience with residential energy codes and smart home integration, and background in product certification and regulatory approvals. Base operates as a startup with rapidly evolving priorities, so flexibility and ownership mindset are essential. The company emphasizes first-principles thinking, rapid execution, direct feedback, and mission-driven work.
