Voyager Technologies is seeking a Systems Engineer VI - Ballistics to join their defense and space technology team. This role focuses on solid rocket motor (SRM) ballistics engineering, combining propellant chemistry, advanced modeling, and experimental validation.
Key responsibilities include:
Ballistics & Propulsion: Develop and maintain predictive ballistic models for solid rocket motors, including regression rate, chamber pressure, temperature sensitivity, and impulse performance. Design internal grain geometries to achieve required thrust profiles. Perform performance trade studies and sensitivity analyses using NASA CEA and in-house MATLAB codes. Analyze static fire test data to reconcile model predictions with measured motor performance. Collaborate with chemists and formulation engineers on propellant selection and characterization (composite, double-base, minimum-smoke). Support motor design integration with structures, thermal, and materials teams. Contribute to safety reviews, hazard assessments, and compliance with DoD, NASA, and ITAR regulations. Expertise in SPP and/or HERO codes and advanced combustion modeling techniques.
Testing & Design: Apply fundamental design principles to igniter and gas generator designs. Perform stress analysis and develop solid rocket motor systems. Possess knowledge in test assembly, data acquisition systems, statistical modeling, and multivariate analysis.
CAD & Analysis: Create intricate 2D/3D designs using CAD tools, producing precise technical drawings with GD&T interpretation. Perform basic structural and thermal analysis, interpret results, validate them, and optimize designs.
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring deep expertise in propellant chemistry, ballistics modeling, and rocket motor design for mission-critical defense and space applications.
