Cloudflare is seeking a Systems Engineer to join the SSL/TLS Team, responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers encrypted connections for millions of websites globally. In this role, you will design and implement backend services using Go and other languages, building RESTful APIs with dedicated datastores that operate at Cloudflare's massive scale. You'll work on systems that issue, manage, and deploy TLS certificates, directly impacting the security of billions of internet users daily.
Key responsibilities include: architecting and building distributed backend systems; writing production-quality code in Go with strong testing practices; designing and implementing RESTful APIs and their associated data storage layers; integrating multiple services via message queue systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ); evaluating and integrating third-party and open-source tools; designing operational alerts and runbooks for the ops team; serving as an escalation point for critical operational issues; reading and refactoring legacy codebases to modern service architectures; and conducting code reviews for peer engineers.
You'll need 3+ years of professional backend systems experience at a technology company, with proven expertise building and operating distributed systems. Strong proficiency with Go (or willingness to learn it) is essential, along with deep knowledge of modern Unix/Linux environments, excellent debugging skills, and a track record of delivering reliable, well-tested production code.
Desirable qualifications include experience with RESTful API design, PKI/TLS concepts and certificate management, technical documentation writing, SQL and PostgreSQL, distributed systems constraints (performance, caching, data retrieval), and message queue systems. Your work will directly contribute to making the web faster, safer, and more encrypted for site owners and billions of visitors worldwide.
