Cloudflare's Product Platform Tools team builds and operates the internal support and admin platform that powers operational teams across the company. As a Systems Engineer, you'll design and build backend services, infrastructure, APIs, and integrations that serve this platform at enterprise scale.
You'll work closely with both engineering teams and non-engineering stakeholders—Support, Legal, Security—who depend on the platform daily. The role requires deep curiosity about Cloudflare's systems, a strong security and governance mindset, and the ability to scale systems for a global organization.
Key responsibilities include:
- Design, implement, and operate backend services, infrastructure, APIs, and integrations forming the core of the internal platform
- Partner with engineering teams across the company to onboard their applications onto the platform
- Work directly with non-engineering stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate them into reliable platform capabilities
- Own and improve the platform's security and authorization posture, partnering with Security and Legal teams
- Ramp quickly into unfamiliar and legacy codebases, build context across Cloudflare systems, and make thoughtful improvements
- Participate in on-call rotations, respond to production incidents, and drive post-incident reviews
- Contribute to platform observability, developer experience, and engineering standards
Required experience: 5+ years building and operating production backend services at enterprise or large-scale organizations, with strong proficiency in Go and/or TypeScript. You must have demonstrated experience in platform engineering, internal tooling, or support/admin systems, with direct experience supporting non-technical end users. Strong understanding of authorization and authentication systems (OAuth 2.0, OIDC, JWT, OPA/Rego, RBAC) and a security-first approach to design are essential. You should have a proven scalability mindset, ability to work across organizational boundaries, and confidence working in unfamiliar codebases.
