Rocket Lab is seeking a Systems Engineer I or II to join the Space Systems division in Long Beach, CA. This role supports the development of spacecraft, payloads, and subsystems for civil, commercial, and defense missions, including work with NASA, the Space Development Agency, and the U.S. Space Force.
In this position, you will develop and maintain technical budgets for vehicle performance, define system requirements and verification techniques, create simulations and analysis across vehicle functions, and develop test methods with data analysis. You'll lead and own technical development of spacecraft missions, assist with program and product management, and collaborate on interface specifications, CONOPS definition, and design documentation.
Systems Engineer I requires a Bachelor's degree in engineering (aerospace, mechanical, electrical, software, computer, or related discipline) and aerospace industry experience supporting satellite or spacecraft development programs. U.S. citizenship is required due to program requirements.
Systems Engineer II requires the same educational background plus 2+ years of aerospace engineering experience and spacecraft/satellite development program support. U.S. citizenship is required.
Desirable qualifications include a Master's or PhD in engineering, understanding of spacecraft subsystems (ADCS, EPS, communications, C&DH, thermal control), knowledge of orbital mechanics and rigid body dynamics, proficiency with MATLAB, Python, and STK, experience with requirement management tools (JAMA, DOORS), satellite operations experience, and hands-on testing experience with electrical subsystems, thermal vacuum, random vibration, and hardware-in-the-loop testing. The role involves working in a dynamic environment with competing priorities and occasional exposure to production areas.
