Salary: USD 150,000 - 196,000 / annual
Cloudflare is seeking a Systems Engineer to build, deploy, and manage a large-scale, multi-region PostgreSQL platform that powers internal services across the company. You will work with database engineers, infrastructure teams, and application developers to evolve the database architecture, improve reliability, and enhance automation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and deploying PostgreSQL database clusters in production environments with high availability and disaster recovery capabilities
- Developing and maintaining database tooling for automation, monitoring, and performance tuning
- Implementing proactive observability solutions using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Kibana to monitor database health
- Optimizing database performance through indexing strategies and query tuning
- Collaborating with infrastructure and applications teams to integrate database tools and solutions
- Managing backup and disaster recovery strategies for multi-tenant clusters
Required experience:
- Hands-on expertise building, scaling, and managing large-scale PostgreSQL clusters with failover and disaster recovery
- Infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Ansible, or Salt)
- Scripting languages (Python, Bash) for automation
- Database tooling development and maintenance
- Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Monitoring and alerting tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Kibana)
- Database performance optimization and query tuning
Nice-to-have skills include Go, Ruby, or C/C++ development; PostgreSQL open-source contributions; schema migration tools (Flyway, Liquibase, goose); connection pooling (PgBouncer, HAProxy); and experience with distributed databases, time-series databases, or key-value stores.
