Cloudflare operates one of the world's largest networks spanning hundreds of data centers across 190+ cities globally. The Network Engineering Team builds and runs the infrastructure powering Cloudflare's software platform, split between product development and operations groups.
You will join a team of talented network automation engineers building software solutions to improve network resilience and reduce operational toil. This role focuses on developing tools, infrastructure, and services—both new and existing—to elegantly and efficiently solve problems while delivering practical, maintainable, and scalable solutions. You will leverage AI tools and automated assistants to streamline daily workflows and accelerate project delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing software components for network automation across a massive global infrastructure
- Building and maintaining tools that improve network resilience and reduce engineering operational burden
- Working with modern infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, and observability systems
- Collaborating with AI assistants and automated tools to augment task execution
- Contributing to a codebase that powers millions of websites and Internet properties

REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
- 3+ years of proven experience developing software components for network automation
- Understanding of software development principles, design patterns, and programming languages (Python, Go)
- Proficiency with modern Unix/Linux operating systems and distributions
- Experience with SQL databases (MySQL, Postgres, Clickhouse, or equivalent)
- Experience with CI/CD, containers, and/or virtualization
- Experience with observability systems (Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalents)
- Demonstrated experience working with AI assistants or automated tools to augment task execution
BONUS SKILLS:
- Knowledge of networking engineering with competencies in Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols
- Experience with vendor equipment (Cisco, Juniper, etc.)
- Experience building and maintaining large distributed systems
- Experience managing internal and/or external customer requirements and expectations
