North is building a next-generation cloud, AI, and data spend management platform. The company provides real-time visibility, control, and automation over digital asset finances, helping companies grow efficiently without wasting time or money. Backed by top-tier investors, North is establishing itself as the financial operating system for the public cloud.
You'll join the Foundations team, which owns how North is built, shipped, and operated: cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, CI/CD, releases, observability and incident tooling, and internal tools used across the company. This is a full-stack role spanning infrastructure as code to application code, with the goal of making North easy to operate and hard to get wrong.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building and managing the cloud infrastructure North runs on, ensuring availability, resilience, and security
- Improving developer tooling, CI/CD, local development, and release processes to make shipping easy for every team
- Strengthening observability and incident tooling, with participation in on-call rotations
- Building and growing the admin dashboard and internal tools that teams across North rely on, including non-engineering teams
- Ensuring internal tools are reliable, auditable, and have appropriate access controls and safeguards
- Working with dependent teams to understand their needs and priorities
The role is leveled based on experience and working style using North's engineering ladder. Internal tools are a significant part of the work today, alongside infrastructure and tooling that every engineering team depends on.
Work setup: Hybrid based in Brooklyn (Dumbo office), with team members typically in office 2–3 days per week. Remote US option also available.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years building and operating production software, including time on-call
- Full-stack experience with strength in Python on the backend
- Hands-on experience with AWS and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform)
- Experience building internal tools or admin systems where correctness and permissions matter
- Comfort with CI/CD pipelines and developer tooling
- Pragmatic, informed use of AI coding tools
- Clear writing and documentation habits
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with billing, invoicing, or financial operations systems
- Experience with monorepos and build tooling (e.g., Nx)
- Experience with incident management and on-call tooling
- Familiarity with FinOps concepts
