Toptal, a global network of top talent in business, design, and technology with $200+ million in annual revenue, is seeking an SVP of Product to shape the company's product vision and drive execution across its platform and portfolio.
As the most senior product role in the company, you will report directly to the CEO, sit on the executive team, and work collaboratively with Engineering, Design, Finance, Marketing, New Businesses, Professional Services, and Customer leaders. Your core mandate is to make AI the centerpiece of Toptal's product strategy—not a line item, but the roadmap itself.
Key Responsibilities:
AI & Agentic Product Strategy: Own Toptal's AI product strategy across the marketplace, talent and client experiences, internal systems, and go-to-market products. Make build-versus-buy decisions on models and tooling, establish measurable AI quality through evals and acceptance bars, and rebuild how Product operates using AI to amplify every product manager's output and judgment.
Portfolio & Operating Model: Own the vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for the entire product portfolio—what to build, sunset, and how to distribute investment across growth, platform, and operational leverage. Establish the product operating model and metrics so decisions are driven by evidence and user research, not opinion. Integrate acquisitions and new products, and serve as a senior voice of the customer.
Team & Accountability: Define what a modern product team looks like as roles blur between product, design, and engineering. Own resourcing, workforce planning, and hiring commitments. Review product work directly, develop people against a clear bar, and raise standards as the organization scales. Hiring is your highest-leverage work; you will set the bar for every seat and visibly champion landing A-players.
Hands-On Execution: This is not a delegating role. You will write your own specs, pull your own data, build rough prototypes to validate concepts, and sit in product reviews to give candid feedback. You will work directly with AI researchers and set the pace for how fast Product moves.
First 90 Days: Get up to speed on organizational operations and platform architecture. Build relationships with the CEO, executive team, and direct reports. Assess the current state of the Product organization and its AI maturity. Bring an unsolicited product strategy to the executive team. Establish a shared view of company priorities and how product supports them. Own the portfolio strategy and roadmap, with at least one AI-enabled capability in production and measured.
First Year: Run a product organization recognized as one of the most advanced in the industry, with AI leverage embedded across the portfolio and operating model. Build an exceptional product team doing the best work of their careers. Deliver on roadmap priorities with demonstrable links between product investment and business results.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required, preferably in a technical discipline (Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems); Master's strongly preferred.
- At least 15 years of proven software Product Management experience.
- At least 8 years of experience leading Product organizations, including managing other product leaders (managing managers).
- Proven ability to raise the level of a product organization through hiring and developing talent.
- Proven ownership of resourcing and workforce planning with a quantifiable hiring track record; demonstrated ability to make hard calls when someone is not clearing the bar.
- Experience owning an entire product portfolio at a high-growth technology company, with accountability for business outcomes, not just delivery.
- Demonstrated success setting product strategy at the executive level and translating it into executable roadmaps across multiple teams and domains.
- Experience leading AI-enabled products with a focus on delivering measurable business outcomes.
- Deep, hands-on command of modern AI as a product discipline: agentic architectures, harness and orchestration design, retrieval, context engineering, fine-tuning, and evaluation, plus understanding of the economics of running models in production. You must have shipped these yourself.
- Further ahead on AI than the executives around you; able to teach it and proven at moving an organization to adopt something it was not asking for.
- Growth marketing fluency: understanding of acquisition, activation, conversion, and retention well enough to build for them.
- Experience with marketplace, platform, or two-sided business models is a strong plus.
- Prior experience as a Software Engineer is a strong plus.
- Comfortable working with SQL or spreadsheets to analyze data and conducting research with internal and external users.
- Ability to creatively craft solutions through data and a user-centric approach.
- Meticulous with a high bar for quality when writing user stories, brainstorming technical approaches, and testing features before release.
- Humble, willing to learn, and willing to do whatever is needed to accomplish goals.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with agile development methodologies in globally distributed teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, rapidly growing company and handle diverse challenges, deadlines, and contacts.
- Must be a world-class individual contributor; not here just to tell others what to do.
- Must be able to regularly and reliably attend scheduled virtual team meetings on camera, work independently with minimal supervision, use digital collaboration tools, and prioritize and self-manage workflows and deadlines.
