GitLab is seeking a Support Engineer to join its U.S. Government Support Engineering team. In this role, you will work at the intersection of support and engineering, enabling public sector organizations and U.S. government agencies to run GitLab in highly secure and constrained environments, including FedRAMP-authorized, air-gapped, and classified settings.
You will engage deeply with GitLab through command-line analysis, examining logs, system behavior, and application performance. Strong Linux fundamentals and understanding of GitLab's component interactions end-to-end are essential. You may partner with Product and Engineering teams to reproduce and document edge-case defects using sanitized data, or contribute directly to the product by opening merge requests that resolve customer-impacting issues.
Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating closely with U.S. government agencies, Department of Defense, and Intelligence Community organizations to diagnose and resolve complex GitLab deployment issues under strict security and compliance constraints
- Performing deep technical investigations using Linux command-line tooling and GitLab internals to analyze logs, system performance, and application behavior, often with limited telemetry
- Tracing issues across infrastructure, application, and code paths to identify root causes and drive durable fixes
- Creating and updating clear, reusable documentation and support content based on customer interactions
- Participating in regular pairing sessions with other Support Engineers and acting as a stable counterpart to cross-functional teams
- Strengthening GitLab by improving documentation, support workflows, and institutional knowledge
This fully remote role operates in a collaborative environment built on trust, autonomy, and shared ownership. You will work with some of the most secure and constrained environments in the world, directly supporting national security missions.
