Harbinger is an American commercial electric vehicle (EV) company transforming the medium-duty EV and hybrid market. The company brings together deep expertise in EV, battery, and drivetrain technology to deliver innovative platforms.
As Supplier Quality Engineer for Powertrain, you will be the quality liaison between Harbinger and its powertrain component suppliers. You will establish and maintain quality standards, troubleshoot supplier issues, and drive continuous improvement across the supply chain.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with suppliers to ensure compliance with company and industry quality standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, AS9100).
• Conduct supplier audits (process, product, and system) to assess and qualify new and existing suppliers.
• Develop and implement supplier performance metrics including defect rates, response times, and process improvements.
• Establish and validate supplier processes including tool trials, gauge design, first article inspection (FAI), and production part approval process (PPAP).
• Conduct incoming inspections and quality checks of powertrain components.
• Review and approve supplier documentation such as control plans, FMEAs, deviations, and inspection reports.
• Lead weekly supplier calls to ensure parts meet quality and timing requirements for production build stages.
• Participate in design reviews with engineering and manufacturing teams to mitigate manufacturing and assembly risks.
• Monitor and report on supplier performance metrics and compliance.
• Investigate and resolve quality issues; collaborate with suppliers on root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
• Lead MRB (Material Review Board) meetings and act as quality representative for engineering change control board.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supplier quality and performance.
• Maintain accurate records of supplier quality performance, audits, and corrective actions.
Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar technical field (required).
• 3–7 years of experience in manufacturing quality or supplier quality engineering in automotive or aerospace industry, or equivalent manufacturing environment (required).
• Knowledge of castings, forgings, gears, welding, assembly, tooling, materials, and associated quality requirements.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2018 or IATF 16949 standards (strongly desired).
• Understanding of quality core tools: Quality Management Systems, Supplier and Internal Audits, APQP, SPC, PPAP, FMEA, MSA.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
• Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple projects.
• Strong understanding of mechanical components (forgings, castings, sheet metal, plastic injection molding) and assembly processes.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 30–50%.
• ASQ Certifications (Certified Quality Engineer, Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Quality Manager, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, or higher) preferred.
• Proficiency in quality management systems (QMS) and relevant software applications.
