Waabi is a Physical AI company founded by AI researcher Raquel Urtasun, focused on autonomous transportation technology for commercial trucks and robotaxis. The company is backed by leading AI, automotive, and logistics partners, with offices in Toronto, San Francisco, Dallas, and Pittsburgh. As Supplier Quality Engineer, you will own the complete supplier quality lifecycle for critical hardware components. Your responsibilities include conducting technical audits of suppliers against IATF 16949 and ISO 9001 standards, managing supplier qualification and onboarding, and serving as the primary technical contact for a supplier portfolio from sourcing through production and service support. You will lead the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for complex mechanical, sensor, compute, and actuation systems. This includes developing supplier deliverables such as Process Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (PFMEAs), process flow diagrams, and control plans with error-proofing solutions. You'll partner with internal engineering teams during design-for-manufacturing (DFM) phases to optimize complex designs for high-yield production. Key responsibilities also include defining special characteristic steps for manufacturing processes, deploying and validating hardware end-of-line testers, supporting process verification testing and run-at-rate studies, and analyzing field performance data to drive corrective actions. You will lead root cause corrective action (RCCA) investigations using 8D methodology and support continuous improvement of the quality management system across suppliers and contract manufacturers. Required qualifications include a BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field, with deep expertise in APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, Gage R&R, and SPC. You must be proficient in Solidworks or similar 3D CAD/CAE tools, GD&T tolerancing, and familiar with diverse manufacturing processes (PCB, PCBA, wire harness, sheet metal, injection molding, stamping, die casting, CNC machining). Experience with FEA, PLM tools, and automotive standards (ISO 9001, IATF 16949, ISO 26262) is essential. Mastery of problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone analysis) is required. Automotive, aerospace, autonomous vehicle, or EV industry experience is highly preferred. CQE certification or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt is a bonus. The role requires approximately 25–50% travel for supplier audits, process validations, and production ramp-ups.
