Scale AI is hiring a Subcontracts Manager to own day-to-day relationships, execution, and integration of subcontractors supporting large Public Sector programs focused on AI and national security. This role bridges technical and operational domains, requiring you to understand Scale's agentic AI solutions and ensure subcontractors—including major defense primes and specialized technical partners—deliver against committed timelines, requirements, and technical dependencies.
Key responsibilities include: managing subcontractor relationships and performance accountability; translating prime contract milestones into clear subcontractor deliverables and acceptance criteria; integrating subcontractor activities into Integrated Master Schedules (IMS) and identifying risks and dependencies; onboarding new subcontractors with proper program context, systems access, and security requirements; coordinating flow-down of security, compliance, and program requirements; managing administrative workflows (invoices, billing, documentation, staffing changes); and providing program managers with clear visibility into subcontractor performance.
You will work closely with Scale's Delivery team and technical leads, holding external partners accountable while maintaining high-trust relationships. The role demands technical fluency to understand software, systems integration, and technical program plans without being the approving engineer, combined with strong program management and cross-organizational influence skills.
Required: Active Top Secret clearance; 5+ years in program management, technical program management, subcontractor management, defense acquisition, or systems integration; experience managing external organizations against defined scope and schedules; fluency with IMS, WBS, SOWs, and formal program reviews; demonstrated ability to operate across technical and administrative domains; strong influence and accountability skills; excellent communication across engineers, executives, subcontractors, and government stakeholders; willingness to work onsite in DC and travel to subcontractor facilities.
