Valar Atomics is a Series A nuclear energy company focused on making clean, high-temperature nuclear power scalable for industrial applications, hydrogen production, and next-generation manufacturing. The company is building advanced nuclear systems designed for rapid deployment and factory-scale production, with a pilot plant planned for Orangeville, Utah. You will join the Power Conversion engineering team as a Structures Engineer specializing in turbomachinery. This is an early-stage role where you'll directly influence the design and architecture of power generation systems that convert reactor heat into electrical power. Key responsibilities include: - Structural analysis of rotating turbomachinery components, assessing margins and operational life - Quantifying deflection and thermal growth of components during operation - Cross-functional collaboration to define clearance requirements and ensure manufacturability - Contributing to high-efficiency, robust design decisions for the power conversion system You'll work with rotating equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines, blowers, turboexpanders, and turbopumps. The role requires hands-on FEA modeling using commercial codes (Ansys, Nastran, Abaqus) and deep understanding of high-speed rotating machinery dynamics and stress analysis. This is an opportunity to shape critical infrastructure for clean energy at a venture-backed company with significant technical ambition and real-world deployment timelines.
