Divergent 3D is revolutionizing aerospace and defense manufacturing through its DAPS (Divergent Adaptive Production System) technology, which uses 3D-printed metal connectors (Nodes™) and lightweight materials to create efficient, complex structures. The company is a qualified Tier 1 supplier to global automotive OEMs and supports leading U.S. aerospace and defense companies. As a Structures Engineer, you will support next-generation aerospace vehicle development across the entire product lifecycle, from program kick-off through start of production. Your primary responsibilities include creating and managing CAD models, finite element analysis (FEA) models, and bills of materials (BOMs) for individual Nodes™ and full structures. You will develop and maintain comprehensive engineering documentation, including system-level DFMEA and DVP&R, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand manufacturing and design capabilities while ensuring proposed changes can be efficiently produced and assembled. Key duties include building and analyzing FE models of Node™-based vehicle structures with validation through hand calculations and optimization; presenting design summaries and reports to internal engineers and external customers; creating and refining technical solutions for automotive structures to support customer programs and joint development efforts; and working collaboratively within the DAPS Product Engineering team and across disciplines to design and release optimized structures. You will also support cost reduction initiatives, prototype and production builds, maintain technical documentation including best practices and lessons learned, and support vehicle builds and product development testing. Required qualifications include a BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent), experience in structural design, CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred), PLM experience (Teamcenter preferred), structural analysis expertise, and proficiency with analysis software such as Nastran, Optistruct, or LS-Dyna. You must have solid understanding of linear/nonlinear behavior of advanced materials (composites, adhesives, metals), experience with aerospace load applications and MIL-STDs, outstanding comprehension of solid mechanics, and strong interpersonal skills. U.S. export control compliance is required. Preferred qualifications include experience interfacing with engineering, testing, and manufacturing groups; familiarity with DFMEA, DVP, control plans, PPAP, and APQP; knowledge of vehicle systems and requirements; experience supporting analysis for product approval and launch; structural design and analysis throughout design, build, and test phases; fast iteration prototyping; system configuration management; and direct engagement with DoD airworthiness stakeholders such as AFTC or FAA.
