Salary: USD 120,000 - 170,000 / annual
Tempus is seeking a Structural Biologist III to lead structural biology initiatives that bridge computational biology, bioinformatics, software engineering, and clinical teams. This role combines individual technical expertise with team leadership responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide structural biology support for variant analyses by interpreting structure-function relationships and their clinical implications
- Develop novel methods, protocols, and tools for structural modeling, molecular dynamics simulations, and clinical variant assessment on internal platforms
- Partner with statisticians and data scientists to validate algorithms and data collection workflows
- Coordinate cross-functional efforts across Bioinformatics, R&D, and reporting teams for clinical research projects
- Write testable, production-grade code adhering to SDLC standards and code review best practices
- Maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge bases
- Direct and lead the structural biology team through both soft and explicit leadership to ensure timely project completion
- Mentor junior staff and support their professional development
- Inform and educate leadership and stakeholders about project progress, technical achievements, and blockers
Qualifications & Requirements:
- PhD in computational biology, structural biology, biophysics, bioinformatics, or equivalent field
- Minimum 5 years of R&D experience in computational structural biology or related fields
- At least 2 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience
- At least 2 years of management or team leadership experience
- Fluency/proficiency in scripting languages: Python, R, Perl, C/C++, Java, or SQL
- Strong background in bioinformatics and molecular modeling software
- Strong background in systems biology and molecular dynamics
- Experience with experimental techniques such as X-ray crystallography or Cryo-EM
