Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Stress Analysis Engineer to join the Maritime Manufacturing Technology team in Santa Ana, CA. This role is responsible for structural integrity of advanced pressure-boundary enclosures, launch systems, and high-consequence maritime structures from design through fabrication and qualification testing.
You will perform classical hand calculations and advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA)—including linear, non-linear, buckling, fatigue, and fracture mechanics—on complex maritime pressure boundaries, structural enclosures, and mechanism assemblies. Key responsibilities include defining and maintaining statistical structural design allowables (A- and B-basis) across metallic and composite materials, serving as custodian of the centralized allowables database, and translating material specifications and heat treatments into actionable finite element models.
You will act as the primary analysis interface to Materials & Processes (M&P) and Manufacturing Engineering, accounting for manufacturing-induced effects such as residual stresses, weld shrinkage, and surface finishes in structural assessments. You'll provide rapid, quantitative stress dispositions for non-conformances and material anomalies, and drive structural test programs from coupon-level mechanical testing to full-scale subcomponent qualification.
Required: Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical, Aerospace, Structural Engineering, or Materials Science. 4+ years of demonstrated experience in structural stress analysis on high-consequence hardware (aerospace, defense, marine/subsea, or space systems). Deep proficiency in classical hand calculations and commercial FEA tools (Abaqus, ANSYS, Nastran/Patran, HyperMesh). Practical experience developing design allowables using statistical methods (MMPDS) and working with metallurgy teams. Strong understanding of heavy metallic fabrication processes and their influence on fatigue and structural margins. Must be a U.S. Person eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
