Anthropic is seeking a Strategic Projects Lead for Recruiting to own the company's most complex, cross-cutting recruiting initiatives and decisions. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on influence, coordination, and systems thinking rather than direct team management. You will work across every team that touches hiring—Recruiting Systems, Analytics, Interview Programs, and others—moving work forward through partnership and influence. Your core mission is to bring structure, coordination, and follow-through to high-stakes decisions that span multiple teams and don't fit neatly into any single group's remit. Key responsibilities include: - Taking on recruiting's biggest ambiguous bets: defining problems, shipping testable versions, and handing off repeatable programs - Owning the operating rhythm across recruiting support teams, ensuring coordinated planning, review, and decision-making - Identifying and fixing systemic friction rather than addressing isolated cases - Owning process design for company-wide changes that run through recruiting and driving adoption - Serving as recruiting's DRI for headcount and workforce planning, including hiring pace and regional readiness - Establishing and maintaining operating standards for interviewing (scheduling lead time, interviewer load) - Converting analytics into standards, SOPs, and documentation that new leaders can execute independently - Keeping stakeholders informed without becoming a bottleneck; maintaining fluency in recruiting systems and data This is a high-autonomy role for someone who thrives in complexity and ambiguity. You'll partner directly with functional leads but won't manage their teams or build their systems. Success depends on building trust across senior stakeholders with different priorities and designing systems that work across team boundaries. Anthropics's mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. The company operates as a single cohesive team on large-scale research efforts, valuing impact and communication skills. Anthropic is headquartered in San Francisco and operates globally. Minimum qualifications: - 8–10+ years in program management, business operations, chief of staff, or people/talent roles at a fast-growing company, with increasing scope over time - Experience as part of a talent team or close partnership with one; deep understanding of how recruiting operates day to day - Systems thinking: seeing how pieces connect, anticipating downstream effects, designing fixes across team boundaries - Ownership of several complex workstreams simultaneously with ability to make hard prioritization calls with minimal guidance - Track record of setting strategy and vision for your area rather than executing others' plans - Ability to create structure and clarity in genuinely ambiguous environments - Experience applying AI to real workflows: redesigning processes, automating repetitive layers, shipping faster - Comfort testing smallest viable versions of ideas in the real world before scaling; ability to clearly articulate what you're not doing and why - Ability to lose a decision cleanly: disagree, commit, execute with full credibility; knowing which calls are reversible - Demonstrated success taking big process or policy changes through an organization end-to-end and making them stick - Commitment to closing loops, holding the bar, and finishing unglamorous work Preferred qualifications: - Experience running recruiting or talent operations at global scale - Working knowledge of recruiting compliance (OFCCP, GDPR, regional employment law) and how it shapes process and systems decisions - Experience in deep-tech environments with technical recruiting complexity - Experience operating across multiple time zones and jurisdictions Education requirement: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience in a field relevant to the role.
