Fireworks is a Series D AI infrastructure platform ($17.5B valuation) that enables companies to build, train, and serve specialized AI models. Founded by the PyTorch team and backed by AMD, NVIDIA, Sequoia, Benchmark, and others, Fireworks powers production AI across text, image, embedding, audio, and multimodal workloads.
This Strategic Finance Manager role owns financial analysis for Fireworks' two largest cost centers: GPU infrastructure and R&D. You will be a core finance partner to infrastructure, engineering, product, security, and IT leadership, reporting directly to finance leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
- Build and maintain the GPU fleet financial model (capacity commitments, utilization, cost per GPU-hour) and trace it through to unit economics, gross margin, and cash flow
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Security, and IT on R&D finance: headcount planning, hiring forecasts, tooling and vendor spend, and operating budgets
- Serve as source of truth for capacity held, committed, and utilized; partner with infrastructure on capacity planning
- Evaluate GPU and cloud provider commitment structures and contract terms; identify optimization opportunities and track credits
- Lead software, tooling, and infrastructure vendor negotiations and renewals with financial analysis to improve terms
- Embed in infrastructure and engineering planning to understand utilization, scheduling, and roadmap behavior; feed insights back into financial models
- Support monthly forecasting and variance analysis for compute, cloud, and R&D spend; explain drivers clearly to leadership
- Establish frameworks to track and forecast research/experimentation compute separately from production serving; evaluate R&D ROI across teams
- Build reporting, dashboards, and processes that make compute and R&D economics transparent to leadership
- Contribute compute and R&D inputs to board materials, investor updates, and fundraising
This is an early-to-mid-career role with real scope, designed for someone with sharp analytical skills who wants to understand how the business operates and help build scalable finance processes.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3–7 years of experience in investment banking, private equity, or equivalent (required for modeling rigor and analytical foundation)
- Ideally, subsequent experience in corporate or startup finance (strategic finance, FP&A, or corporate development) at a technology company
- Expert financial modeling skills: build from scratch, stress-test assumptions, translate outputs into clear recommendations
- Genuine interest in operations and understanding the physical/technical systems underlying the numbers
- Comfort with messy and imperfect data
- Excellent communication with technical and non-technical audiences; ability to turn complex questions into clear one-page answers
- Ability to architect and operate: strong instincts for building structure and processes to scale
- High ownership and bias toward action in ambiguous, shifting-priority environments
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience at AI/ML, developer platform, or cloud infrastructure companies; familiarity with compute purchasing and usage
- Exposure to cloud, data center, or semiconductor economics (CSP contracts, capacity commitments, accelerator utilization)
- Finance partnership with engineering organizations (headcount planning, vendor costs)
- Working knowledge of GAAP treatment for infrastructure and capitalized software development
- Experience with consumption/usage-based revenue models and commit/tier structures
- SQL, Python, BI tools, or ERP (NetSuite) proficiency
- Enthusiasm for using AI to automate manual finance work
