Lambda is a leader in AI cloud infrastructure serving tens of thousands of customers, from AI researchers to enterprises and hyperscalers. The company's mission is to make compute as ubiquitous as electricity and give everyone access to superintelligence. You will join as Strategic Finance Lead, a senior individual contributor role reporting to the VP of Strategic Finance. Your core responsibility is to own the finance perspective on major capital allocation decisions: new datacenter sites, large customer deals, hardware purchases, and strategic investments. You will be the finance partner to Datacenter Operations, Supply Chain, Capital Markets, and Sales teams, ensuring that every major decision is evaluated with consistent rigor and that returns, risks, and trade-offs are transparent to leadership. Key responsibilities include: - Own the finance view of project and deal decisions from early screening through final approval, ensuring consistent assessment across all sites, deals, and major purchases. - Create alignment across the company by working with non-finance teams to agree on assumptions and decision framing early in the process. - Frame trade-offs clearly when choosing between sites, customer opportunities, or financing approaches, helping leadership understand the choice before committing. - Design and maintain systems, templates, and review cadences that enable consistent project evaluation, audit capability, and scalability as the business grows. - Prepare and present the finance view at deal and investment reviews. - Extend into adjacent areas as needed: unit economics analysis, public cloud pricing and packaging strategy, and broader finance team collaboration. Success in this role requires exceptional ability to work with non-finance stakeholders (engineers, operators, deal makers). You must think in systems—designing frameworks that are consistent enough to compare decisions, detailed enough to investigate anomalies, and simple enough to summarize for executives. The role is less about building models and more about ensuring the right questions are asked and trade-offs are visible. The position requires 4 days per week in the San Francisco office (Fremont St location); Tuesday is the designated work-from-home day. REQUIREMENTS: - 8+ years in strategic finance, corporate development, investment banking, infrastructure investing, or similar role, including time inside an operating company working with non-finance teams. - Demonstrated experience evaluating large, long-lived capital commitments and explaining returns and risk to non-financial audiences. - Comfort working with engineers and operators; ability to listen and understand the business before modeling it. - Track record of building frameworks and processes that scale and outlast individual contributors; preference for consistent, repeatable methods over one-off solutions. - AI-native capability with clear examples of processes created or improved using AI tools. - Strong writing and presentation skills; ability to hold a point of view with senior leadership and adapt when facts change. - Comfort with ambiguity and ability to create structure in unstructured situations. NICE TO HAVE: - Experience in datacenters, cloud infrastructure, telecom, energy, or other capital-intensive industries. - Experience with supply chain or capital markets decisions from the finance side. - Experience with unit economics or pricing in consumption or infrastructure businesses.
