Salary: USD 231,000 - 340,000 / annual
Harvey is an AI platform transforming legal and professional services by combining frontier agentic AI, enterprise-grade infrastructure, and deep domain expertise. As a Staff or Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Product Engineering team, you will own and lead high-impact engineering projects spanning multiple teams and product lines, working closely with AI, Legal, and GTM teams to build secure, scalable systems.
You'll architect and ship Harvey across multiple surfaces where lawyers work daily—web, desktop, mobile, and embedded experiences in Google Docs, MS Word, Outlook, and Slack, plus APIs. Your responsibilities include leading large, high-priority projects that define technical strategy over multiple quarters; identifying business-critical problems and making ruthless prioritization and tradeoff decisions; and building AI-platform and AI-native capabilities including agent harnesses, custom agents and workflows, tool calling, retrieval, memory and context management, personalization, and evaluation systems that translate model quality into product quality.
You'll ship systems handling petabyte-scale document retrieval, ingestion growing 10x every six months, data collection across 50+ jurisdictions, and government-level security for sensitive legal matters. The role spans the full stack—React and TypeScript on the frontend alongside Python and Postgres on the backend—architecting intuitive UX and robust APIs for streaming results, long-running processes, and complex tool-calling workflows. You'll mentor senior and staff engineers and raise the bar for engineering excellence across the organization.
Required: 10+ years post-degree experience in product-focused software engineering at Staff level or above; depth in full stack, backend, or agents/AI with sufficient range to contribute outside your specialty; experience building scalable, extensible systems supporting multiple product lines; track record shipping highly intuitive products in fast-growing SaaS; proficiency in React, TypeScript, CSS (TailwindCSS), Python, or related technologies. For AI/agents focus: hands-on experience building and shipping agentic systems including agent harnesses, tool use, memory, and evaluation systems—not just LLM API integration. You embrace AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) as core to your workflow, have sharp instincts for where they accelerate work, and can influence and align engineers and leaders outside your direct scope. Strong CS fundamentals and startup experience preferred.
