Salary: CAD 185,000 - 233,000 / annual

Lightmatter is revolutionizing AI data center infrastructure through photonics technology. The company invented Passage™, a 3D-stacked photonics engine that connects thousands to millions of processors at the speed of light for extreme-scale data centers supporting advanced AI and HPC workloads. Recently raised $400M in Series D at a $4.4B valuation. You will serve as a Photonics Architect, partnering with internal engineering teams to deliver groundbreaking photonic products to market. In this role, you will define the micro-architecture for a revolutionary photonic-based communication fabric, from component-level design to top-level layout. You will provide detailed technical documentation describing what needs to be built, requiring deep understanding of process technology, state-of-the-art photonics design, and exceptional communication skills. Key responsibilities include: - Propose innovative photonic designs including modulators, receivers, multiplexers, lasers, and amplifiers for the Passage product - Collaborate closely with the photonic engineering design team to provide performance, power, and area estimates for photonic devices - Work actively with the analog engineering team to deliver a high-bandwidth photonic interconnect solution - Author, review, and validate architectural specifications This is a staff-level individual contributor role where you will guide and mentor engineering teams while maintaining deep technical involvement in photonics architecture and design. Requirements: - PhD in electrical engineering, physics, applied physics, or related photonics discipline - In-depth knowledge of photonic devices and semiconductor physics - Experience with integrated silicon photonics components - Preferred experience with photonic simulation tools: FDTD, Lumerical, Verilog-A, VPI Photonics - Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-disciplinary teams - Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills, particularly for non-obvious technical challenges - Capacity to comply with U.S. export control laws
