Salary: USD 231,000 - 340,000 / annual
Harvey is an AI platform transforming legal and professional services by combining frontier agentic AI, enterprise-grade infrastructure, and deep domain expertise. As a Staff or Senior Staff Software Engineer on the Product Engineering team, you will own and lead high-impact engineering projects spanning multiple product lines and teams.
You'll work across the full stack to bring Harvey's AI capabilities to where customers already work—web, desktop, mobile, and embedded experiences in Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Slack, and via API. Your responsibilities include leading large, cross-team projects that define technical strategy for the next several quarters; building AI-platform and AI-native capabilities such as agent harnesses, custom agents and workflows, tool calling, retrieval, memory management, and evaluation systems; and shipping systems that handle petabyte-scale document retrieval, 10x ingestion growth every six months, and government-level security.
You'll architect intuitive user experiences and robust APIs for streaming results, long-running processes, and complex tool-calling workflows. The tech stack spans React, TypeScript, CSS (TailwindCSS), Python, and Postgres. You'll mentor senior and staff engineers, raising the bar for how the organization builds.
Required: 10+ years post-degree experience in product-focused software engineering at Staff level or above. Deep expertise in full stack, backend, or agents/AI with breadth across domains. Proven track record shipping scalable, extensible systems supporting multiple product lines in fast-growing SaaS environments. Strong programming fundamentals and Computer Science knowledge. For AI/agents roles, hands-on experience building and shipping agentic systems (agent loops, tool use, memory, evals)—not just LLM API integration. Proficiency with React, TypeScript, Python, or related technologies. You actively use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex) as core to your workflow. History of influencing and aligning engineers and leaders outside direct scope. Early-stage startup experience is a plus.
