Robinhood is integrating Trade PMR, a newly acquired registered investment advisor platform, into its product suite. The Advisor Products team is building systems to connect Robinhood's retail customers with Trade PMR's financial advisors while merging two distinct technology stacks and user experiences into a cohesive product.
As a Staff Web Engineer on this team, you will design and build full-stack systems spanning backend services and web applications serving both advisors and investors. You'll own system architecture decisions, reasoning through technical tradeoffs to ensure scalability as the Trade PMR integration grows. While setting technical direction and mentoring other engineers, you'll remain hands-on, writing production code and raising quality standards across the team.
Your responsibilities include:
- Designing and building full-stack web systems, backend services, and user-facing web applications
- Creating system and technical designs that scale, reasoning through tradeoffs before committing to approaches
- Partnering with engineering teams, product, marketing, and finance stakeholders to translate ambiguous requirements into clear technical plans
- Coaching and reviewing other engineers' work to improve code quality, design rigor, and delivery practices
- Defining mechanisms to ensure best practices are applied throughout the development cycle
- Communicating clearly with technical and non-technical audiences about progress and tradeoffs
Your initial focus will be integrating retail customer growth initiatives with Trade PMR advisors. You'll work in a high-performing, fast-moving environment where ethics and impact are central.
The role is based in the New York office with hybrid attendance expected at least 3 days per week.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of professional engineering experience, with several years at the staff level and prior team lead experience
- Hands-on experience building and scaling web systems with strength in React, TypeScript, and Node; proficiency in Go and Python
- Experience designing and reasoning about scalable, reliable architectures at the Staff Engineer (IC6) level or equivalent
- Strong instinct for user needs and judgment to translate them into sound product decisions
- Strong communication skills for working with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Nice to have: experience building AI-assisted workflows and shipping AI-powered features; iOS or Android development experience
