Atoms is building Physical AI—real-world autonomous robots for industries including food production, mining, and transport. The company integrates hardware, software, AI, operations, and manufacturing to deploy intelligent systems at scale in real-world environments.
As Staff Vehicle Integration Engineer, you will own the electrical, compute, and drive-by-wire systems that underpin the autonomy stack on next-generation vehicle platforms. This is a hands-on technical leadership role spanning prototype bring-up through fleet deployment.
Key responsibilities:
• Vehicle-Level Integration: End-to-end ownership of drive-by-wire, onboard compute, power distribution, and vehicle network integration from prototype through production fleet.
• System-Level Debugging & Hardening: Root-cause analysis across harnesses, connectors, power distribution, actuation, and compute. Convert findings into design changes and corrective actions that measurably improve fleet reliability and uptime.
• Platform Bring-Up & Calibration: Lead electrical and compute bring-up of new vehicle platforms, including CAN/CAN FD/Automotive Ethernet interface analysis, gap analysis against L4 autonomy requirements, and requirements definition for drive-by-wire and firmware teams.
• Validation & Test Infrastructure: Define vehicle-level validation covering power states, fault injection, degraded-mode behavior, thermal, signal integrity, and connector durability. Design test harnesses, breakout boxes, vehicle breadboards, and HIL benches.
• High-Voltage & Energy Systems: Own high- and low-voltage boundaries, redundant power distribution budgets, battery and charging integration, and safety practices for depot charging and fleet operations.
• Deployment & Fleet Execution: Serve as primary technical anchor during critical rollouts and test site deployments, with some travel.
• Engineering Standards & Documentation: Establish automotive-grade conventions for schematics, harness documentation, and change control. Lead design reviews, DFMEA, and 8D processes.
Required qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 8+ years integrating, validating, and debugging electrical and electromechanical systems on prototype and production vehicles in autonomous vehicles, EVs, or at automotive OEMs/suppliers.
• Deep expertise in vehicle E/E architecture: low-voltage power distribution, redundancy, wire harness and connector systems, failure modes.
• Fluency with automotive networks and diagnostics: CAN, CAN FD, LIN, Automotive Ethernet (100/1000BASE-T1), DTCs, and tools including Vector CANalyzer/CANoe, Vehicle Spy, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers.
• Experience integrating and debugging vehicle actuation interfaces: steering, braking, propulsion, motor control, and powertrain systems including redundant and fail-operational behavior.
• Experience integrating compute into vehicles and managing the electrical, thermal, and reliability challenges that arise.
