Form Energy is hiring a Staff Test Engineer to join the Test Engineering team at a critical growth moment as the company scales battery manufacturing. You will design, develop, and implement comprehensive test strategies for iron-air battery energy storage systems, ensuring reliability, safety, and performance across mechanical and electrical components at both component and system levels.
Key responsibilities include leading end-to-end test campaigns from concept through final validation, acting as a subject matter expert for hardware integrated systems. You will design and approve critical test fixtures and infrastructure, architect automation strategies, and define sensor and data acquisition approaches for new and existing programs—particularly for electromechanical test systems and high-voltage architectures.
You'll serve as a technical leader, determining methods and procedures on new projects, coordinating cross-functional personnel, and delegating troubleshooting and root cause analysis efforts to junior and peer engineers. You'll influence design decisions by representing Test Engineering in high-level design reviews and driving cross-functional alignment on validation plans.
Additionally, you'll establish organizational standards for test reporting and data integrity, standardize testing philosophies, and propose new technologies to improve efficiency. You'll model initiative by removing blockers for others, anticipating resource needs, and advising management on capacity planning. Your analytical work includes establishing complex data collection pipelines, analyzing test data from internal labs and external sites, correlating findings to theoretical models, and preparing detailed reports for senior leadership.
You bring a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering (or related field) with 7–10 years of deep technical experience in test engineering, data analysis, and leading complex hardware verification programs. You have several years of hands-on experience with air and liquid handling/circulation systems, with thermal and thermomechanical systems expertise preferred. You excel at defining end-to-end test campaigns, sensor strategies, and establishing test reporting standards. You demonstrate strong design partnership skills, building formal networks across firmware, reliability, and safety teams. You exercise analytical rigor, manage complex issues with sound judgment, and have a proven track record as a technical or team lead with mentorship experience. Relocation assistance is available.
