Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Technical Writer to create documentation and learning content for its observability platform, trusted by over 10,000 organizations including Anthropic, Bloomberg, NVIDIA, Microsoft, and Salesforce. You'll work with engineers, product managers, and the writing team to produce content across multiple products and audiences—from first-time users to experienced practitioners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, research, write, and maintain documentation and learning content (concepts, tasks, tutorials, references, in-product learning) that supports product adoption and mastery.
- Use AI tools and workflows throughout the content lifecycle (drafting, structuring, validation, consistency checks, maintenance), applying human judgment to verify accuracy and quality.
- Contribute to shared AI workflows and identify opportunities to improve and automate content creation and maintenance as tools evolve.
- Partner with engineers, PMs, and stakeholders to understand requirements, interview subject matter experts, and translate complex technical details into clear, accurate content.
- Test documented procedures by running software yourself and flag product and UX gaps.
- Use documentation and learning analytics, along with user feedback, to identify content gaps, prioritize work, and demonstrate impact.
- Collaborate with the documentation manager and team to improve information architecture, voice, and consistency across docs.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, using judgment to prioritize and communicate when plans change.
- Mentor teammates and share practices that elevate team quality.
The role is 100% remote within a globally distributed team across 40+ countries. Grafana Labs is backed by leading investors including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Sequoia Capital, GIC, Coatue, J.P. Morgan, CapitalG, and Lead Edge Capital.
Requirements:
- Experience writing or documenting enterprise or developer-facing software, with a portfolio or writing samples demonstrating technical depth.
- Hands-on experience using AI tools and models in your writing workflow (LLM assistants, agentic coding tools, custom prompts/skills) and ability to explain how you evaluate and verify their output.
- Experience with docs-as-code: command-line Git, GitHub (pull requests and reviews), Markdown, and common IDEs.
- Comfort working in technical environments; ability to set up, run, and troubleshoot software yourself to verify documentation (command line, containers, Kubernetes, or willingness to learn quickly).
- Experience collaborating with engineers and product managers to obtain accurate technical information.
- Experience working remotely and asynchronously on distributed teams.
- Bonus: Experience with observability, monitoring, cloud-native tooling, or open source documentation contributions.
