Muon Space is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer for Mission Platforms to serve as the primary systems integrator for end-to-end mission capability baselines across their scalable spacecraft platform family. This role takes a holistic "Outside-In" systems integration approach, bridging hardware, flight software, ground segment interfaces, and mission operations to deliver Earth and climate intelligence missions.
You will partner directly with the Hardware Chief Engineer, Flight Software Architect, Ground Software Architect, and Operations teams, acting as the connective tissue across the entire mission stack. Key responsibilities include: defining and integrating the holistic mission platform baseline; establishing standardized capability baselines for platforms; executing system-level simulation and analysis to ensure resource budgets and performance specifications are met; driving Verification & Validation and "Test Like You Fly" campaigns; shaping fault management architectures to reduce operator toil at scale; and creating reusable requirements and standardized documentation across the spacecraft fleet.
You will maintain strategic awareness of broader product roadmaps spanning Power, GNC, Instruments, Propulsion, and Avionics to ensure seamless integration. The role requires translating core spacecraft platform roadmaps into unified baselines and tracking high-level system Key Performance Parameters to identify bottlenecks and guide resource allocation.
This is a hybrid position requiring three days per week on-site in San Jose, CA. Success requires the ability to right-size analysis and processes for different levels of system maturity and risk, flexibility with changing demands and schedules, and effective communication of technical content to diverse audiences.
