Graphcore, a SoftBank Group company and leader in AI compute infrastructure, is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to provide advanced operational, diagnostic, and engineering support for its Arm-based hardware platforms. This role focuses on hardware bring-up, validation, and troubleshooting of complex AI compute systems including server blades, racks, and rack-scale infrastructure deployed across lab and data center environments.
Key responsibilities include leading advanced break-fix troubleshooting for server hardware and power systems; supporting engineering bring-up activities with component validation and firmware testing; diagnosing system-level failures involving thermal behavior, power anomalies, network configuration, and BIOS/BMC issues; collaborating with server engineering teams on root cause analysis and design improvements; supporting deployment and qualification of next-generation hardware platforms; interfacing with facilities teams on environmental factors affecting reliability; developing standard operating procedures and troubleshooting documentation; and providing mentorship to junior technicians and engineers on hardware diagnostics methodologies.
The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field, plus 10 years of hands-on experience with server hardware architectures and board-level debugging. Essential skills include analyzing system logs, hardware telemetry, and power/thermal metrics to isolate failures; hands-on experience with HPC systems, AI compute platforms, or rack-scale infrastructure; and strong collaboration and communication abilities in fast-paced engineering environments.
Desirable qualifications include experience with prototype or pre-production hardware bring-up, familiarity with data center facilities (liquid cooling, power distribution), scripting experience (Python, Bash) for hardware validation, and exposure to structured failure analysis and reliability engineering methodologies. The role includes on-call support during critical engineering milestones.
