Radiant is building the world's first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company's flagship product, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt, fail-safe microreactor designed for rapid deployment to hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Founded in 2020, Radiant is preparing for its first reactor test at Idaho National Laboratory with initial customer deliveries expected in 2028.
As Staff Structures Engineer, you will own the design and development of critical structures within Kaleidos, including mass-efficient transportable shielding systems, container systems, and high-temperature graphite and metallic components. This is a high-impact individual contributor role with company-wide technical scope.
Key responsibilities include: conducting trade studies and developing designs to meet program requirements; performing detailed thermomechanical analysis (static strength, durability, fatigue) and dynamic analysis (vibration, shock) using both hand calculations and finite element tools (Abaqus, Ansys, FEMAP); developing manufacturing and assembly instructions and test plans; creating and managing bills of materials; identifying and developing suppliers; owning subassembly design, manufacturing, and test schedules; conducting risk analysis (FMEA) for subsystems; and providing technical expertise and feedback to cross-functional teams.
Required qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, Civil, or Structural Engineering; 7+ years of structures design experience; 5+ years performing stress analysis using hand calculations and finite element tools.
Desired qualifications include: multi-component assembly design in CAD (NX or similar); experience with hardware that was manufactured, deployed, and iteratively improved; thermal expansion problem-solving; interdisciplinary team collaboration; GD&T proficiency; ability to work across analytical methods; and text-based software development tool experience.
The role requires 100% onsite work at El Segundo headquarters with willingness to work extended hours and weekends.
