Salary: USD 212,000 - 280,000 / annual

Temporal is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Traffic team, playing a key role in driving technical strategy, execution, and leadership across traffic management, network optimization, and cloud orchestration. This role offers the opportunity to significantly impact the scalability, reliability, and operational excellence of Temporal's networking infrastructure while mentoring and guiding the team. Key responsibilities include leading the design and development of systems that optimize network traffic and scale for global expansion, driving architectural decisions for high-impact projects, and co-authoring long-term technical roadmaps that set the vision for network scalability and performance. You will build and nurture effective partnerships across engineering, product, and security teams to align on network infrastructure goals, lead design reviews for critical projects with focus on system-level tradeoffs, and drive the design and implementation of secure-by-default network systems in collaboration with security teams. You will act as a key stakeholder by engaging with customers and internal teams to understand business requirements and deliver innovative solutions. The role involves deeply understanding how to leverage Temporal's software to build and scale networking infrastructure, gathering insights into customer needs, and staying at the forefront of technology advancements in traffic management and cloud orchestration. Mentoring and guiding engineers is central to this position, sharing best practices and design principles for building reliable and scalable networking systems. You will drive alignment across teams, ensuring roadmaps are cohesive and deliverables are on track, while fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. Required qualifications include proven experience leading complex engineering efforts focused on network traffic management and cloud orchestration, exceptional collaboration and communication skills, and a track record of contributing to long-term technical roadmaps. You need at least 8+ years of coding experience in languages like Go, Java, or similar, with strong expertise in concurrent and distributed code. Extensive experience designing and building distributed systems, deep expertise in traffic and networking systems, hands-on experience with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure), and a strong sense of ownership are essential.
