Paylocity is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join the Time Off team, driving technical excellence and innovation across the organization's HR and payroll software platform. This fully remote role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership, focusing on architecting scalable solutions while fostering a culture of technical excellence and collaboration. The Time Off team is responsible for all user interfaces and backend systems related to time off requests, approvals, configuration, and accruals. As a Staff Engineer, you will drive technical direction across the Time Off domain by influencing architectural decisions and ensuring alignment with long-term business and engineering goals. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing modular, well-architected systems that scale efficiently; driving technical strategy and best practices across teams and departments; architecting solutions that consider both immediate needs and long-term implications; identifying and championing high-impact technical initiatives that drive business value; owning and delivering large-scale project features with high reliability and performance; and delegating effectively to accelerate project timelines and develop team capabilities. You will prioritize and manage multiple high-impact projects simultaneously, proactively identify and mitigate technical risks, set and maintain high standards for code quality and performance, lead code reviews and technical design discussions, and advocate for automation and process improvements. The role includes mentoring and coaching team members at all experience levels, driving continuous team improvement through knowledge sharing, building strong relationships across engineering teams, and fostering an inclusive culture that encourages open discussion and collaboration. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience; minimum 8 years of software engineering experience; and a proven track record of leading significant technical initiatives. Technical skills must include deep understanding of distributed systems and scalability patterns, strong background in software architecture and system design, experience with performance optimization and observability, expertise in multiple programming languages (C#, Java, or similar modern object-oriented languages), and strong understanding of software development fundamentals and agile methodologies.
