Salary: USD 212,000 - 278,250 / annual

Temporal Technologies is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the Test Systems & Tooling team. In this role, you will design and build sophisticated testing platforms that enable engineers across the organization to validate changes under production-like conditions before deployment. Key responsibilities include: • Build production-representative test environments: Design tooling that allows engineers to easily spin up test cells mirroring production topology, configuration, and behavior in partnership with Cloud/Infrastructure teams. • Enable production-representative workloads: Develop capabilities for workload generation, multi-tenant testing, stress/load testing, and traffic replay systems to reproduce production behaviors in controlled environments. • Make failure-mode testing repeatable: Create tooling for injecting and validating failure conditions (latency, dependency faults, resource exhaustion, degraded-state recovery, region-level failures) so teams test deliberately rather than learning from production incidents. • Drive system-level test coverage: Identify high-impact system-level scenarios that are currently difficult to test and implement repeatable coverage integrated into continuous and release validation pipelines. • Build shared frameworks and paved paths: Provide opinionated libraries, harnesses, and patterns that enable product teams to write high-quality system and integration tests consistently. • Provide technical leadership: Mentor engineers and influence testing strategy across the organization through design documents, code reviews, and cross-team collaboration. • Partner across Engineering: Work closely with Reliability and Release Engineering teams to convert incident learnings into durable pre-production test coverage. You should bring strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production-quality systems (platforms, infrastructure, developer tooling, or distributed systems). Demonstrated technical leadership in ambiguous, cross-team initiatives is essential. Experience designing for observability, debuggability, and operational readiness (metrics, logs, tracing, safe rollouts) is required. You'll need strong written communication skills and comfort working across organizational boundaries. Nice-to-have experience includes chaos engineering, fault injection, workload replay/shadowing, performance testing, multi-tenant test strategy, building internal platforms used broadly across engineering organizations, and familiarity with measuring engineering/system outcomes.
