Coinbase is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to architect and develop platform capabilities for the Security Platform Engineering (SPE) organization. This role is central to building infrastructure that powers security, compliance, and privacy across Coinbase's operations.
You will architect scalable backend systems and provide technical leadership to teams working on critical security use cases including secrets and key management, identity and access management, on-chain security, policy and risk management, and vulnerability management. Your work will directly enable Coinbase's product, compliance, security, and services teams to protect the company and its customers.
Key responsibilities include designing and building new services using Golang and Java; architecting solutions for novel security problems using modern cloud technology and industry best practices; mentoring and training team members on design techniques and coding standards; managing project priorities and deliverables; and articulating long-term vision for maintaining and scaling backend systems. You will work closely with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to define strategic roadmaps and turn technical vision into actionable quarterly plans.
You will also review feature designs across the company for cross-cutting projects, owning the security, safety, scale, operational integrity, and architectural clarity of these designs. This is a high-impact role requiring deep technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to debug extremely difficult technical problems while making systems easier to deploy, operate, and diagnose.
