Okta's Workforce Identity Cloud Security Engineering group is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to design and develop security solutions that harden frameworks and infrastructure. This is a high-impact role combining deep security domain expertise with software engineering excellence to protect Okta's customers at scale.
You will act as a technical liaison between the Security and Engineering organizations, influencing the security roadmap and direction while building features on a weekly release cadence. Your responsibilities include researching, designing, and owning security-oriented frameworks; evangelizing security best practices across engineering; participating in cross-vertical code reviews with security emphasis; and coaching junior engineers. You'll work on defense-in-depth measures, OWASP mitigation, cryptography, authentication/authorization, and secure SDLC practices without compromising product performance or user experience.
Required qualifications: 7+ years of software development experience in Java building mission-critical systems; 3+ years designing and implementing security solutions for applications and distributed systems; strong understanding of OWASP Top 10, application security, cryptography, and role/attribute-based access controls; experience with secure code reviews, threat modeling, and vulnerability mitigation; familiarity with AWS/GCP; knowledge of RDBMS (MySQL), Redis, and Elasticsearch; B.S./M.S. in Computer Science or related field.
