In this Staff Software Engineer role, you will work on the core systems that determine in milliseconds whether a signup is legitimate, a payment is safe, or a login is authentic. The team processes billions of events daily using streaming pipelines, graph databases for fraud ring detection, ML models for transaction scoring, and LLM agents for alert triage.
Key responsibilities include collaborating with senior technical leadership to develop and enhance payment products and transaction systems using Java/Kotlin; independently designing and developing microservice components; experimenting with new technologies and proposing architectural improvements; and mentoring less-experienced engineers on software engineering practices and coding standards.
You'll need 8+ years of Core Java development experience, 5+ years building Internet applications, large financial systems, or e-commerce platforms, and 3+ years in risk or payment platform development. Deep expertise in distributed systems, high concurrency, high availability architectures, Spring/Spring Boot, and RESTful services is essential. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of risk management and fraud detection, graph databases, ML frameworks, real-time streaming (Kafka/Flink), and data analytics tools (ClickHouse, Spark, NoSQL).
The role is based in Seattle and part of a team spanning Seattle, Singapore, and China, collaborating globally on risk management strategy.
