Rula is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical vision and execution of the Marketplace Health Engine, a foundational initiative designed to improve marketplace efficiency, provider utilization, and patient access at scale within their mental healthcare platform.
In this high-impact role, you will partner closely with Engineering, Product, Data, and Operations teams to design and deliver scalable systems that identify and address marketplace challenges. You will drive technical strategy across the Marketplace organization, mentor engineers, influence key architectural decisions, and remain hands-on in software development. The role requires leading technical initiatives across multiple teams without direct authority, demonstrating strong influence and alignment skills.
You will own projects end-to-end, from discovery and design through implementation, launch, and post-launch support. This includes designing and building backend services, APIs, and data-intensive systems on AWS, solving complex marketplace and operational problems with measurable business impact, and partnering effectively with Product and Data teams to deliver outcomes.
Required experience includes 8+ years building scalable distributed systems, leading technical initiatives and influencing strategy without direct authority, designing backend services and data-intensive systems (AWS preferred), and solving complex marketplace or large-scale operational problems. You should have strong communication skills to align technical and non-technical stakeholders, and demonstrated ability to drive projects end-to-end.
Preferred qualifications include startup experience, SaaS development on AWS, on-call experience with ability to independently resolve complex issues, expertise with NodeJS, TypeScript, and Kafka, and experience building products with high reliability and accuracy requirements.
