EarnIn is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer to own testability as a first-class engineering discipline across the organization. This is a builder role—not traditional QA—focused on designing, building, and maintaining backend services, RESTful APIs, and internal platforms that make fintech systems inherently testable, observable, and safe to change rapidly.
You will design and build backend services and APIs that expose testability as a platform capability, including test hooks, state seeding/reset, fault injection, synthetic data generation, and environment control. You'll architect "backdoor" testing interfaces and controlled test-only entry points that allow engineering teams to safely manipulate system state and simulate edge cases without compromising production integrity or security.
Key responsibilities include evangelizing testability and quality engineering practices across product, backend, mobile, data science, and design teams; partnering with development teams to identify testability gaps in microservices (REST and gRPC) and proposing platform-level solutions; building internal tooling, SDKs, and libraries that make adoption of testability best practices frictionless; and defining and tracking quality metrics/SLAs across services.
You will collaborate with and mentor engineers across teams on test architecture, service design, and quality engineering patterns. You'll work closely with security and platform teams to ensure testability features are safely scoped, access-controlled, and cannot be exploited in production.
A key focus area is championing AI-native approaches to testability—using AI/LLM-based tooling to auto-generate test cases, synthetic data, and edge-case scenarios; accelerating root-cause analysis; and building AI-powered agents into the testability platform (e.g., agents that autonomously exercise APIs, detect regressions, or generate coverage reports). You'll evaluate and pilot emerging AI coding/testing tools and establish patterns for responsible org-wide adoption.
