LawnStarter is the nation's leading on-demand marketplace for lawn care and outdoor services, with over $100M in annual bookings. The company is expanding beyond lawn care to become a one-stop shop for all home services, operating three brands (LawnStarter, Lawn Love, Home Gnome) on a shared platform. As a Staff Software Engineer, Product, you will serve as the engineering anchor for product initiatives, working in small, focused teams alongside a Product Manager and designer. You'll have ownership across the full lifecycle: problem-framing, technical approach, implementation, production launch, and outcome measurement. The role emphasizes shipping end-to-end and being measured by impact rather than lines of code. Key responsibilities include: - Defining technical approach: architecture, data models, integration choices, rollout and rollback strategies - Ensuring implementation quality through prompt engineering, guardrails, evaluations, and tests for AI-assisted code - Cross-functional partnership with PMs on scope and tradeoffs, designers on UX decisions, and engineering peers - Owning initiative outcomes and metrics; presenting results 2–4 weeks post-launch - Maintaining high bars for production correctness, security, performance, observability, and user experience The engineering culture leverages AI coding agents as force multipliers. You'll direct agents to implement much of the code while maintaining senior-engineer quality standards. You have real autonomy to make technical decisions, with architect review on significant architectural choices and peer collaboration on adjacent initiatives. Success in year one means shipping 3–4 initiatives end-to-end with measurable metric impact, developing reusable agent workflows that peers adopt, reducing cycle time from problem-framing to production, maintaining zero customer-facing regressions from agent code, and leaving behind artifacts (runbooks, evals, workflows) that guide the team. You should be AI-native, comfortable with Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent tools as your daily development approach. The role attracts engineers wired for ownership, energized by shipping to real marketplaces with customers and service professionals on both sides.
