Hinge Health is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical architecture of its Proactive Communications platform, a mission-critical system for driving member engagement and health outcomes in musculoskeletal care. You will architect a unified communications engine that orchestrates member outreach across SMS, email, push notifications, and in-app messages with high throughput and low latency. In this role, you will own the long-term technical strategy for proactive outreach, partnering with ML scientists to integrate proprietary predictive models into communication workflows. Rather than static rules, outreach will be triggered by intelligent predictions of member behavior and needs. You'll ensure system reliability, scalability, and member privacy while maintaining high standards for observability and error handling. You will mentor senior and intermediate engineers, establish best practices for CI/CD, automated testing, and ML model monitoring in production, and build strong cross-functional partnerships with Product, Design, Marketing, and Data Science teams. The ideal candidate is a technical visionary who excels at translating complex business goals into scalable architectures. You have 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, with 2+ years each in Python (backend/data integration), TypeScript/Node.js (services), cloud platforms (AWS preferred), containerization, distributed systems, and team mentorship. Preferred qualifications include experience with member-facing communication platforms (Twilio, Braze), ML model deployment in production, LLMs/conversational AI, Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and healthcare/regulated industry experience (HIPAA). Hinge Health uses AI-powered, human-centered care to address musculoskeletal conditions affecting 1.7 billion people worldwide. The company is the preferred partner to 60+ health plans and serves over 20 million people across 2,800+ employers. Headquartered in San Francisco with offices in Montreal and Bangalore.
