Flexport is a global commerce platform that moves over $19B of merchandise annually across 112 countries. The Platform, Security & Infrastructure (PSI) team builds and operates the foundational infrastructure that hundreds of engineers depend on to run Flexport's products reliably around the clock. As a Staff Software Engineer in Platform SRE, you will own and evolve the infrastructure powering Flexport's engineering organization. Your responsibilities include designing, building, and operating reliable, scalable infrastructure on AWS and other cloud platforms; evolving container orchestration (Kubernetes), Helm charts, and deployment systems (Argo) to enable safe service deployment and debugging; enhancing the observability stack (Openmetrics, Datadog) for clear system insights; establishing standards for Infrastructure-as-Code codebases (Terraform); creating and supporting CI/CD pipelines (Buildkit, GitHub Actions) and build tooling (Gradle, Bazel, npm/pnpm/bun, Go, Cargo); improving incident response tooling; and crossing organizational boundaries to align with product teams on engineering-wide changes. You will proactively identify infrastructure risks before they become incidents and work with software engineering and security teams to enhance resilience, observability, efficiency, security, and operational ease. This is not a ticket-driven role—you'll independently identify high-leverage problems and drive solutions. Required qualifications: 10+ years of software engineering, site reliability engineering, or infrastructure engineering experience with significant production system work; deep cloud infrastructure knowledge with hands-on AWS expertise; strong Infrastructure-as-Code skills (Terraform preferred) and a track record of creating safe, reusable patterns; solid software engineering skills and ability to build automation and tooling in general-purpose languages; experience leading incident response, conducting blameless post-mortems, and executing follow-ups; independent mindset thriving in ambiguity; sound judgment on security, IAM, networking, and change management; excellent written and verbal communication for design documents, operational trade-offs, and cross-team alignment; and a helpful, collaborative attitude.
